Scooby-Doo, where are you? Back on the big screen, that’s where! Warner Brothers have announced that an animated Scooby-Doo film is in development for a September 21st, 2018 release.
Based on the iconic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, this new Scooby feature will come from Warner Animation Group and released through Warner Brothers Pictures. Oscar-nominated producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce alongside Allison Abbate, who has previously producer The Iron Giant, Fantastic Mr.Fox, The Corpse Bride, and Frankenweenie. Roven and Suckle have previously produced the live-action Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed for Warner Brothers.
The film, written by Matt Lieberman, whill be directed by Tony Cervone. Cervon is no stranger to Scooby-Doo, previously working on Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated.
Warner Brothers executives, in an announcement, said the following:
“Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters. As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in re-introducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”
“It’s always a treat to see Scooby-Doo on the big screen and to share his larger-than-life adventures with audiences. As anticipation grows throughout production, the movie’s mid-September release date should start the fall season with a burst of fun.”
“It’s wonderful to be working with this talented and inspired team of filmmakers. We couldn’t ask for better producers than Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Allison Abbate, who have such affection and respect for this property and know the Hanna-Barbera universe so well.”
Veronika Kwan Vandenberg:
“Scooby-Doo and his friends have the kind of universal appeal that reaches across cultures as well as generations. We expect this new take on the franchise to generate even more fans around the world.”
Zoinks! No word on if the film will be traditional 2D animation or follow the more modern approach of 3D CGI, but the latter is expected.
Scooby and the gang will reunite on the big screen on September 21, 2018.
