Tom Holland Shows Off SPIDER-MAN Physique + Peter Parker Haircut

In February, it was announced that young actor Tom Holland (The Impossible) landed the highly-coveted role of Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man. With Holland’s take on the character set to debut in Captain America: Civil War in just over six months, we’ve surprisingly yet to see anything official from the upcoming superhero epic. Holland, who has spent the previous few months shooting the mysterious film, has posted a selfie on Instagram – bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Peter Parker from the Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series:

Marvel Studios’ announcement that they would be introducing Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe came with news that this Peter Parker would be returning to high school – and would stay there. Marvel’s take – said by Marvel Studios president and master producer Kevin Feige to be “John Hughes inspired” – has been cited by Spider-Man director Jon Watts as “a high school movie,” with the filmmaker noting that the film would be heavily inspired by the Ultimate Spider-Man series of comic books.

Launched in 2001, Ultimate Spider-Man was a modern update on the classic Stan Lee and Steve Ditko comic books of the 1960s, where Peter Parker was a geeky high school student until 1963’s The Amazing Spider-Man #28. Peter Parker, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, Mary Jane, and the rest of Spidey’s supporting cast received modern looks and attitudes, with the comic putting a focus on Peter Parker’s life as a teenage high school student who must juggle the responsibilities of a double life as a superhero.

With Marvel Studios’ take on Spider-Man reportedly putting an emphasis on the high school and teenager aspect of Peter Parker’s amazing life, it makes sense that the studio would use the Ultimate comics for inspiration. Like with all Marvel Studios productions thus far, fans can expect the film to be an amalgamation of the best elements from the 616 Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Marvel Universe when Marvel Studios’ take on the web-swinging superhero hits screens.

Holland’s Spider-Man will debut in Captain America: Civil War on May 5, 2016. Spider-Man will receive his first Marvel Cinematic Universe solo adventure on July 28th, 2017.
