THE BATMAN Gets a Total Rewrite?
Ben Affleck dropped out of directing The Batman, leading to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves taking the reigns. With The Batman now likely kicking off production in 2018 (for a probable 2019 release date, which could coincide nicely with the caped crusader’s 90th anniversary), /Film reports that “the screenplay for The Batman is being rewritten from the ground up,” according to sources close to the production.
The previous iteration of the screenplay was scripted by Affleck and head of DC Films Geoff Johns. While we knew little about the intended story, Deathstroke was set to be the villain with Joe Manganiello cast as the deadly assassin. (The Flash, also part of Warner’s DC Cinematic Universe, got its own page-one rewrite not too long ago.) Affleck can next be seen as the Dark Knight in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, hitting theaters November 17th.
