Taika Waititi Will Direct BUBBLES, A Stop Motion Biopic About Michael Jackson’s Chimp.
Director of hits like What We Do In The Shadows, this year’s Hunt For The Wilderpeople and the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi, has never strayed away from unique and odd plots to tackle while directing but this might take the cake. It was just announced that alongside Mark Gustafson, Waititi will Bubbles, the biopic about Micheal Jackson’s pet chimp.
The script, written by Isaac Adamson, topped the 2015 Black List and has gained a name for itself. The official plot is,
A baby chimp is adopted by the pop star Michael Jackson. Narrating his own story, Bubbles the Chimp details his life within The King of Pop’s inner circle through the scandals that later rocked Jackson’s life and eventually led to Bubbles’ release.
Starburns Industries has been onboard to produce the stop-motion comedy but this is the first time a director has been attached to the project. Both directors are great, Taika Waititi has more than proved himself in the past years as a director to watch and Mark Gustafson has worked on projects like the sublime Fantastic Mr. Fox and is attached the upcoming Pinnochio where he will co-direct with Guillermo del Toro. If you’re not excited for this I don’t know what will please you. It seems each year we’re gonna get at least one weird movie. We had Anomalisa in 2015, Swiss Army Man in 2016, and now we have Bubbles to look forward too.
