SPIDER-MAN Star Tom Holland Confirms Popular IRON MAN 2 Fan Theory
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland, who portrays Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirms a young Peter Parker appeared long before Captain America: Civil War.
Near the end of 2010’s Iron Man 2, Hammer drones are on the loose and causing havoc at the Stark Expo. A young boy — whose face is never seen — stands defiantly in front of a drone, raising his hand, mimicking Iron Man’s repulsor blast — only for Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) himself to swoop in, destroying the drone and saving the kid. “Nice work, kid,” he says, flying off.
“It is Peter Parker,” Tom Holland told The Huffington Post. “I can confirm that as of today. I literally had a conversation with [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige only 20 minutes ago. Maybe I’ve just done a big, old spoiler, but it’s out there now. It’s cool. I like the idea that Peter Parker has been in the universe since the beginning.”
“It’s funny, I literally had a conversation with Kevin like 20 minutes before [The Huffington Post] interview and he didn’t confirm it, I took it upon myself just because I thought it would be a good story and it’s exploded,” Holland shared with i09.
Peter Parker, who is of high school age come Spider-Man: Homecoming, would be the right age for the kid in Iron Man 2. Plus, the Stark Expo did take place in Queens, and Peter Parker lives in Forest Hills, Queens. It’s not a reach to think a science-loving kid like Peter Parker would have been at the Stark Expo. The theory became popular on the internet ever since it was announced in 2015 that Spider-Man would finally be swinging into the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with Kevin Feige’s apparent blessing, the MCU has its latest fun-filled easter egg.
Spider-Man: Homecoming opens July 7th.
