SPAWN Creator Aiming for a Hard-R Reboot
It’s no secret that legendary comic book writer and artist Todd McFarlane has been trying to put effort into putting his beloved Spawn on the big screen again, but now he has his sights set on a new goal for the reboot.
If you know anything about the origin of Spawn, it’s about a recently deceased military man being recruited to be a bad-ass soldier to the Devil. The comics are ultraviolent as all get out, so it’s been hard for Spawn fans to get a re-do of the 1997 PG-13 version that fans have been asking for.
Ever since Deadpool, rated R comic book adaptations have started to see the light of day, with films such as 2017’s Logan. So it’s no surprise the Todd McFarlane spilled the beans regarding his thoughts on these new comic book features during Emerald City Comicon:
Listen, I’m going to paint it for you. The movie is going to be a dark R…If here’s PG-13 and here’s Deadpool and here’s Logan, we’re going to be here. It’s going to be dark. It’s going to be nasty.
It’s no surprise that the veteran comic book creator wants his dark reboot, and now his enthusiasm has brought a lot of confidence to the hopefuls for Spawn‘s future.
