Sad Face: ‘Lego Movie’ Directors Turn Down ‘Ghostbusters 3’

Last month we reported that Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the helmers of the wonderfully successful Lego Movie, were in talks to take over Ghostbusters 3.  We rejoiced in this news.  However, we sadly report that they turned down the offer.  The studio had indeed offered them the job, but they just decided to do other stuff.

Production of the project is now up in the air after Ivan Reitman, the director of the first 2, left the director’s chair after the death of Harold ‘Egon’ Ramis earlier this year.  This also might not bode well for the project’s success.  If the kings of franchise revivalism (Lord and Miller also wrote and directed the 21 Jump Street reboot) turned it down, we should probably be asking why they did so.  Was it because they felt that they couldn’t make it work?  Is the script that bad?  We hope not.
