Neil Blomkamp’s ALIENS Sequel Is Canceled
Neil Blomkamp is the mind behind the fantastic District 9, the alright Elysium, and the disappointing Chappie. Although his declining track record, fans were still excited to learn the South African director was working on a sequel to James Cameron’s classic Aliens. Well with news being scarce on the project and Ridley Scott returning again to the franchise with the upcoming Alien: Covenant we were all left wondering if this project was still happening. Well, it’s time to fly our flags at half mass as Ridley Scott has confirmed that the sequel is officially dead.
When speaking with ComicBookResources, Scott said this about the state 0f the project,
There was never a screenplay, just an idea that evolved into a pitch of 10 pages…I was always just a producer, but it didn’t go any further because Fox decided that it didn’t want to do it.
While this news is not the best, I can’t say I’m not a little relieved. Blomkamp made a great movie but hasn’t done anything of merit since then and I can rest easy knowing the franchise remains in Ridley Scott’s hands. Even if you didn’t love Prometheus, it’s a lot better than Chappie.
