Julianne Moore Eyes Villain Role in KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE 2
Academy Award winner Julianne Moore (Still Alice) is in talks to join the cast of Kingsman: The Secret Service 2, THR reports. Moore would tackle the role of the film’s villain should a deal be made, though specifics about the character remain unknown. Moore potentially joins the returning Taron Egerton (Eddie the Eagle), resuming his role of Eggsy, a street smart tough who entered a highly secretive and exclusive spy service before being tasked with saving the world.
Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) will helm the sequel, after his talents lead Kingsman: The Secret Service to big box office and critical acclaim. “[Kingsman: The Secret Service] really is the origin story of Eggsy,” said Vaughn last February, a day before Kingsman took theaters by storm. “And Eggsy is really the real, true modern gentleman spy. It really isn’t Harry Hart (Colin Firth). Harry Hart is the old cliché of what you think a gentleman spy is. Eggsy will be taking on a whole new way.”
“We’ve got this idea to introduce the world to the American branch of the Kingsman,” the filmmaker revealed of a sequel that was then only a possibility, instead of the certainty that is now only months away from production. “Listen, all of them will be doing stuff… And the villain we’ve come up with…,” a tight-lipped Vaughn teased, speaking on the role which could be filled by Moore, should scheduling permit. Vaughn assured that the filmmakers have “a really fun idea for the sequel,” which hits theaters June 16th, 2017.
