Joe Manganiello Confirmed as Villain of Ben Affleck’s BATMAN Movie
DC Entertainment president and chief creative officer Geoff Johns, who will be co-writing The Batman with star and director Ben Affleck, has confirmed that Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike) will play master tactician and highly skilled assassin Deathstroke. The villain was recently teased by Affleck, whose Batman movie could drop as early as 2018.
Johns also spoke on the tone of the ongoing DC Cinematic Universe, which has thus far released Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. “Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.’ That couldn’t be more wrong,” Johns said. “It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he didn’t think he’d make tomorrow better, he’d stop.” Producer Deborah Snyder previously shared word that Justice League would be lighter than its predecessors because “some of these characters, you have Flash, [who tends] to be a little more comedic I’d say.” Added director Zack Snyder, “One of the things that lightens it is having the Flash or having characters that are more optimistic. [Batman v Superman] is in particular is two characters who are in a crisis of conscience which sort of draws them together.”
Due to the early reveal of Deathstroke, speculation has arose that Manganiello will debut as the character in Justice League, currently in front of the cameras in the UK. Justice League opens November 17th, 2017.
