Is Josh Gad the Penguin in THE BATMAN?
Josh Gad (Beauty and the Beast, Murder on the Orient Express) continues to tease a potential DC Cinematic Universe role as iconic Batman villain the Penguin.
Gad tweeted a picture of the cigar-chomping, umbrella-twirling bird fiend in May, eventually telling MTV News he was “just having some fun.” Despite claiming there’s nothing there — with a giant smile — Gad said he hasn’t met The Batman director Matt Reeves, but did say he would “absolutely be hoping to play” the Penguin. “It’s all ‘we’ll see,'” he teased. “Just putting it out in the ether.”
In a new tweet, Gad is seen posing with Jon Berg (executive producer on Wonder Woman, and producer on Justice League as well as Suicide Squad spinoff Gotham City Sirens and Batman spinoff Batgirl) and Geoff Johns (head of DC Films and co-writer of The Batman). “Nothing to see here,” reads the comment on a picture of Gad holding up a picture of The Batman Adventures #1 — featuring the Penguin.
Gad could potentially appear alongside Ben Affleck in The Batman, or as a villain in Gotham City Sirens (starring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn alongside Catwoman and Poison Ivy), or in Joss Whedon’s Batgirl. You know what they say: where there’s squawk, there’s fire.
