First SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Trailer Swings Onto the Web (Video)
After Spider-Man’s critically acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters this summer. The debut trailer for Marvel’s first solo Spidey flick will make its theatrical debut ahead of Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but the webhead himself, Tom Holland, swung by Jimmy Kimmel Live! with an army of Spider-Men for the worldwide trailer premiere of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Marvel, the studio behind such hits as Iron Man, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy are “creative producers” on the John Hughes-inspired film, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige revealed in April. “We’re working very much [together],” Feige said of the collaboration between Disney-owned Marvel Studios and Sony, who maintain control of Spidey’s screen rights. “I don’t know exactly what the credits will be, but it is a Sony Pictures production of a Marvel Studios film. The agreement was that it is very much a Sony Pictures movie,” Feige elaborated. “Amy Pascal is co-producing it with us and [Sony Chairman] Tom Rothman is leading the charge for Sony and that we are the creative producers.”
Accompanying the trailer is an updated synopsis via USA Today, who spoke with star Tom Holland about suiting up as Spider-Man for his first headline solo feature. Spider-Man: Homecoming is “more a character piece about this kid who’s struggling to talk to girls and also struggling to save the city,” according to Holland. “This is really a movie where Spider-Man’s not the finished article. He really does learn and he makes massive mistakes. It’s nice to see a kid do that and then try to rectify those mistakes.”
Distributed by Columbia Pictures and creatively produced by Marvel Studios, Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car) from a script by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford (Robot & Frank) and Chris McKenna & Erik Summers (Jumanji). Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal (Ghostbusters) serve as producers, with Mitchell Bell (Captain America: Civil War) and Eric Hauserman Carroll (creative executive, Thor and Thor: The Dark World) co-producing. Executive producers are Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee and Matthew Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2).
Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Jacob Batalon, Bokeem Woodbine and Robert Downey Jr. Part of Phase 3 of Marvel Studios’ interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7th, 2017.
