EDGE OF TOMORROW Sequel Is Happening!

Edge of Tomorrow was one of the most overlooked films of 2014. The clever sci-fi thriller starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise didn’t do too well at the box office, which was surprising due to how freaking good the movie actually was. Many fans thought they were not gonna get the sequel they so desperately crave, but director Doug Liman has good news.

In a promotional tour for Liman’s film The Wall, he enthusiastically spoke to Collider about his thoughts on whether or not there would be a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow:

“We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”

Live Die Repeat and Repeat (Yes it is very close to the first film’s alternate title) currently has no release date due to the fact that everyone’s schedule is pretty erratic; Cruise is currently shooting Mission Impossible 6, Blunt is filming Mary Poppins Returns, and Liman is attached to DC’s Justice League Dark for Warner Bros. However, it is said that Emily Blunt is definitely attached, with Cruise hoping to come on board as well.

Liman is super enthused about the project, stating he doesn’t want to just make another simple sequel:

“I’ve had some radical ideas about how to make a sequel that would interest me, in the same way that I had ideas of how you make an independent film and then Swingers came along and it was like ‘Aha, that’s the perfect movie for me to test these ideas out on.’ I had these intellectual ideas on how you should make a sequel that are unlike how anybody else makes a sequel, and this script and this idea fit perfectly into that idea. So it’s gonna revolutionize how people make sequels. And again that’s why I try to do things like Invisible that are just, the revolution’s sort of built into the idea. It’s more heresy in the film world for me to pitch things that are sort of unheard of.”
