Dwayne Johnson to Headline Disney’s Live Action JUNGLE CRUISE
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is no stranger to the Walt Disney Studios: the now A-lister has previously starred in The Game Plan and Race to Witch Mountain for the Mouse House. The actor will also be lending his voice to the character of Maui in Disney’s upcoming animated film, Moana.
Previously, it was announced that Tom Hanks and Tim Allen – co-stars of Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story franchise – would be starring in the live action Jungle Cruise comedy , but the project stalled since that news in 2011.
Until today, where it was revealed that superstar Dwayne Johnson will bring new life to the long-docked project.
Based off of Disneyland’s longstanding theme park ride, The Jungle Cruise will be written by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, who most recently scripted Focus. John Fox and John Davis are producing for Davis Entertainment.
There’s currently no director attached, but we can expect Jungle Cruise to be a comedy/action film.
Disney – who has previously turned theme park attractions The Country Bears, The Haunted Mansion, and most successfully, Pirates of the Caribbean into films – has also expressed interest in adapting Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride into a film, adapting Big Thunder Mountain Railroad into an ABC television series, and bringing to life a Magic Kingdom movie, none of which have come to fruition thus far. Walt Disney Pictures are currently trying their hand at a new take on The Haunted Mansion, this time with Guillermo Del Toro and Ryan Gosling.
