Dwayne Johnson Eyed for Universal’s WOLFMAN?
Dwayne Johnson (The Fate of the Furious, Baywatch) is rumored to be in the running for Universal Picture’s Wolfman reboot, according to THR.
Universal recently announced their “Dark Universe” of interconnected films, with The Mummy (in theaters June 9th), The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and more sharing a universe with crossover potential in the vein of the Marvel Studios franchise. Russell Crowe, who appears as Dr. Jekyll in The Mummy, is said to be the “Nick Fury” of the series — appearing across several films as the head of the mysterious, monster-fighting organization known as Prodigium.
Dark Universe has already secured major stars Tom Cruise (The Mummy) and Johnny Depp (The Invisible Man), with Javier Bardem (Frankenstein) and Sofia Boutella (The Mummy) on board. Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) is reportedly being eyed to play the iconic role of the Bride of Frankenstein.
It should be noted THR mentions Johnson purely as a rumor, and that no negations between Johnson and Universal have occurred. But with Johnson’s A-list status, and his ties to the studio — he appears in their biggest franchise, the Fast and the Furious saga — it makes sense that Johnson’s name would come up for their cinematic universe. Universal most recently rebooted the classic property with 2010’s The Wolfman, which starred Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Anthony Hopkins.
