DON’T BREATHE Director Plans to Return for Sequel

With a budget of just $9.9 million, Don’t Breathe scared up major box office for Sony: the horror-thriller brought in $147 worldwide, with many praising director Fede Alvarez’s Don’t Breathe as “a satisfyingly tense, chilling addition to the home invasion genre that’s all the more effective for its simplicity” (via Rotten Tomatoes). In a new interview with Coming Soon, Alvarez and producer Rodo Sayagues revealed a followup isn’t guaranteed, but they’re confident we’ll see more:

Don't Breathe

“We just started, but we know exactly where it goes,” Alvarez shared. “But we won’t tell you right now. But there will be more Don’t Breathe for sure.” Coming Soon adds that Alvarez is “definitely planning” on returning to the director’s chair, but with the director being tapped for The Girl in the Spider’s Web – sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – it could be a couple years before Don’t Breathe 2 hits screens. Don’t Breathe comes to Blu-ray and DVD on November 29th.
