Disneyland: Fantasmic! Adding ALADDIN, THE LION KING, TANGLED and More (California)
Disneyland’s Fantasmic!, a nighttime spectacular show set on the Rivers of America, will feature new scenes and characters from Aladdin, The Lion King, Tangled and Pirates of the Caribbean when it returns this summer.
The show, running since 1992, has been dark since January 2016, when it was closed — along with the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes and the Disneyland Railroad — allowing for construction of Star Wars land neighboring Frontierland.
Disney has taken advantage of the show’s downtime to integrate changes to the show, including new segments featuring The Lion King, Tangled, Pirates of the Caribbean and Genie from Aladdin. The star of the show, Mickey Mouse, will be added into more scenes, as the lovable mouse battles evil and nightmarish forces invading his imaginative dream.
An exact return date for Fantasmic! has yet to be announced, with Disney stating the show and river attractions will simply reopen “this summer.” Disneyland’s sister park, Disney California Adventure, will launch its limited time Summer of Heroes event on May 27th, accompanying the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout!, the park’s newest attraction replacing the retired Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
