David Fincher Confirmed to Direct WORLD WAR Z Sequel
Almost a year after it was first reported World War Z star and producer Brad Pitt wanted Fight Club and Gone Girl director David Fincher to helm the globetrotting zombie sequel, Fincher is confirmed for the director’s chair. Paramount Pictures CEO Jim Gianopulos confirmed the news in an interview with THR.
Gianopulos confirmed the sequel is in “advanced development,” adding that Pitt will re-team with his Se7en and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button director. In April 2017, we learned Fincher was “close” to signing onto the sequel after original director J.A. Bayona vacated the director’s seat in favor of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Steven Knight (Allied, which also starred Pitt) penned the most recent draft.
World War Z was a massive hit for Paramount in 2013 despite a troubled production under director Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), with the PG-13 horror adventure grossing $540 million worldwide. Paramount has yet to mark a release date for the sequel.
