Daniel Day-Lewis Retires
Even the greats have to hang up their capes sometime.
The 3-time Oscar winner has decided to call it quits, leaving behind one of acting’s most illustrious careers. He has played many unforgettable characters like a crazed oil baron, a man with cerebral palsy, and so much more in between. His career spans more than 4 decades, but now it is all coming to a close.
In a statement published by Variety, the legendary actor’s spokeswoman had this to say:
“Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor. He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. ”
Much like his career, he leaves mysteriously. But hey, you can catch him in Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film coming out Christmas Day this year. Phantom Thread (the film’s reported title per IMDb) is set in the high-stakes fashion world of London during the 1950’s. Not much is known about the project, but if it’s even half as good as There Will Be Blood you can count on it being wildly successful.
Hey, we are all upset to hear the news. I mean, he is considered to be one of the greatest actors ever. We’ve enjoyed his screen and stage presence for years. However, we can all wish him a happy retirement and quietly hate him for leaving.
