D23: Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee Among Disney Legend Honorees
Disney’s bi-annual D23 Expo hosts the Disney Legends Award ceremony, itself celebrating its 30th anniversary when the Disney-centric convention returns to Anaheim this July. Including this year’s honorees, the Walt Disney Company has honored 276 Disney Legends since 1987. “The Disney Legends Award is the highest honor our company can bestow on an individual, reserved for those few who have truly made an indelible mark on the history of The Walt Disney Company,” said Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. “It’s a celebration of talent, a recognition of achievement, and an expression of gratitude to the men and women whose work has significantly contributed to Disney’s enduring reputation for creative excellence.”Disney has officially announced the 2017 honorees. The Disney Legends Award ceremony will be hosted by Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger and take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 14th in Hall D23 during D23 Expo. Nominees include Carrie Fisher (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Clyde “Gerry” Geronimi (with contributions to Cinderella, Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty), Manuel Gonzales (artist, the Sunday Mickey Mouse comic strip), Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Wayne Jackson (Walt Disney Imagineering), Stan Lee (co-creator of Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and more), Garry Marshall (director, Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries), Julie Taymor (The Lion King stage musical), and Oprah Winfrey (The Princess and the Frog, A Wrinkle in Time).
