“Constantine” loses a lead

Constantine - Season Pilot

Joblo is reporting that NBC’s upcoming show “Constantine” is already shaking things up, before it even hits the network.

John Constantine, coming off the scandal that he wouldn’t be allowed to smoke, has a sidekick in the first couple episodes named Liv, played by Lucy Griffiths.

It is now being reported that Lucy has left the show, and the role will not be recast.

Instead of recasting, and continuing with her character, she will be replaced with a character from the comics named Zed.

Zed will appear in an early episode of the series, with additional characters from “Hellblazer” and the occult DC universe to be introduced later.

I think this is great news as we don’t need the token damsel-in-distress sidekick, but rather interesting and unique characters.

I’m all for this happening, but some are taking it as a bad omen that the show might not perform well with the studio seeming to not fight tooth and nail for the most important aspects of the property.
