Chris Evans and Marc Webb Teaming Up for GIFTED
Marc Webb, who has helmed (500) Days of Summer and both The Amazing Spider-Man films, has recently turned to TV after The Amazing Spider-Man 3 officially died. Webb served as director for the pilot of the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a musical comedy; and Limitless, a CBS drama that serves as follow-up to 2011’s Limitless film, which starred Bradley Cooper.
Gifted, which was written by Tom Flynn, is a drama about a man – Evans – who sues for custody over his gifted niece. The Fox Searchlight project begins production this fall and will see Webb return to the big screen after Sony Pictures halted the Amazing Spider-Man series.
Webb also has his long-gestating The Only Living Boy in New York still in development. A Fox 2000 film, it tells the story of a recent college graduate – Miles Teller – who discovers that his father is having an affair. Teller’s character then takes up a relationship with the woman. The father role will potentially star Jeff Bridges with Rosamund Pike potentially taking on the role of the woman.
Webb – who made a fantastic debut with (500) Days of Summer, the romantic/comedy/drama that starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel – seems to be returning to that kind of filmmaking after an invasive filming experience on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which saw Sony Pictures meddling to the point where the franchise was officially killed after only two movies.
