BEAUTY AND THE BEAST Waltzes Past $1 Billion Worldwide
Disney’s live-action re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast has passed $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
With a budget of $16o million, the musical blockbuster has pulled in more than $438 million domestic and $564 million overseas, making the Bill Condon-directed fairy tale another monstrous box office success for Disney. It’s the 29th movie to cross one billion globally and the 14th Disney film to pass the threshold.
Officially the highest-grossing live-action musical of all time, Beauty and the Beast is the latest Disney production to receive the animation-to-live-action treatment, following Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Cinderella and The Jungle Book. Disney has Dumbo, The Lion King, Mulan, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and more live-action films on the way.
