BAYWATCH Producer Planning Sequel
Baywatch, the big screen, R-rated action comedy take on the classic 1989 TV series, opens today — but producer Beau Flynn is already eyeing a sequel.
“We have an amazing story already,” Flynn told Variety. “We’re bringing back [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift who wrote on the first one, and I know Dwayne [Johnson] would be in, I know Zac [Efron] and all the girls would be. We just have this really cool idea to put them in this whole new world. We would take it overseas.”
Baywatch swam to $1.25 million on Wednesday night previews, with tracking putting the film at $30+ million over three days, and $40+ million over the five-day holiday. Paramount’s summer action comedy faces stiff competition from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth installment in the long-running series that’s expected to open upwards of $80+ million this weekend.
Baywatch, starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass, and Ilfenesh Hadera, is now playing.
