AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Cast List – Where’s Spider-Man?
Avengers: Infinity War – the third Avengers film, and the next Marvel production from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War directors Joe and Anthony Russo – will see the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe colliding in a way reminiscent of 2012’s The Avengers. It will bring Marvel’s biggest properties together in one movie, changing the horizon of the ever-expanding Marvel landscape. “I think there will be a finality to moments of Phase Three, as well as new beginnings that will mark a different, a very different, a distinctively different chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases,” Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige said ahead of the release of Civil War.
“Things always get deconstructed, right? You build things up and people enjoy the experiences you’ve built up,” Joe Russo explained. “But then you kind of reach an apex or you reach a climax, a moment where you go, ‘This structure is really going to start to be repetitious if we do this again, so what do we do now?’ So now, you deconstruct it. We’re in the deconstruction phase with Civil War and leading into Infinity War, which are the culmination films.”
We know that the Guardians of the Galaxy – including Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and Groot (Vin Diesel) – will crossover with Earth’s mightiest heroes come Infinity War, as will Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who made his Marvel Cinematic Universe bow in November. According to Movie Casting Call, a search for extras is accompanied by a list of the actors and actresses supposedly involved in Infinity War:
“Starring in “Avengers: Infinity War” is BAFTA Award nominee Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin as Thanos, Saturn Award Winner Chris Pratt as Star Lord / Peter Quill, Teen Choice Awards nominee Sebastian Stan as Bucky, four-time Golden Globe Award nominee Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Academy Award winner Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, ALMA Award winner Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Empire Award winner Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, two-time Saturn Award nominee Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, BAFTA Awards nominee Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet, four-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Vin Diesel as Groot, Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, British Independent Film Awards nominee Benedict Wong as Wong, Action on Film Award winner Dave Bautista as Drax, BAFTA Film Award nominee Paul Bettany as Vision, Santa Barbara International Film Festival Virtuoso Award winner Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa / Black Panther, three-time Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk, and two-time Academy Award nominee Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man.”
A big takeaway is that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will apparently appear before her solo film drops in March 2019, which would mirror the way Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) made his explosive premiere in Civil War before headlining his own film (dropping in February 2018). There’s the surprising lack of mention of Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who said his potential inclusion in Infinity War is “up in the air” when asked by Variety if we’ll see the webhead team up with the Avengers. “I believe some sort of deal is in the mix, but I’m unclear as to what that deal is,” added Holland, who has a six picture deal with Marvel and Sony. Spider-Man is the flagship Marvel character, and his merchandise outsells every other superhero – including the Avengers – so it’s likely the popular, globally recognized and beloved, fan-favorite character will be involved in Infinity War, which hits theaters just a couple of months ahead of the currently untitled solo Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel in July 2019. There’s nothing to say this “cast list” is official, and Marvel Studios will release one eventually, and we can probably expect Holland and other fan favorites – like Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, or Tom Hiddleston’s Loki – to be on it.
“The concept of Avengers: Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept,” Joe Russo has teased. “I can’t get into too much detail about who we’re introducing, but these two movies are intended to be the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU since the very first Iron Man movie. In being a culmination, these movies are in some ways going to be an end to certain things, and in some ways, they’re going to be the beginning of certain things.”
Avengers: Infinity War lands May 4th, 2018.
