All 22 Live-Action Remakes Disney Has Planned

Beauty and The Beast is set to hit theaters later this march and that coupled with all The Lion King casting news recently, that got us thinking, how many live-action remakes does Disney have? The list is long, spanning 22 films and they vary with remakes like Chip and Dale to classics such as Snow White the list only continues to grow. The movies featured are remakes of the animated originals, while others are origin stories to side characters or just flat out sequels. Check out the list below!

  1. A remake of Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens set to be released on March 17, 2017.
  2. A remake of Mulan set to be released on November 2, 2018.
  3. A sequel to Marry Poppins starring Emly Blunt and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda set to release December 25, 2018.
  4. A remake of The Lion King directed by Jon Favreau.
  5. A remake of Dumbo directed by Tim Burton.
  6. A remake of The Sword in the Stone written by Game of Thrones writer/producer Bryan Cogman.
  7. A spin-off about Prince Charming.
  8. An origin story about Genie called Genies telling the story of how he ended up in the lamp.
  9. A remake of Aladdin directed by Guy Ritchie.
  10. An origin story about Cruella de Vil called Cruella starring Emma Stone.
  11. A remake of Winnie The Pooh.
  12. A remake of Peter Pan directed by David Lowry
  13. A Tinker Bell spin-off called Tink starring Reese Witherspoon.
  14. A remake of Pinocchio.
  15. A sequel to The Jungle Book directed by Jon Favreau.
  16. A sequel to Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie.
  17. A remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who worked on one of the best films of 2016, La La Land, and the new hit musical Dear Evan Hansen.
  18. A spin-off about Snow White’s sister, Rose Red written by Evan Daugherty.
  19. A remake of The Little Mermaid with music by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda and Disney veteran Alan Menken.
  20. A remake of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach.
  21. A CGI/live-action film based on Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers.
  22. A spin-off about Chernabog the demon from Fantasia who was a clear depiction of the devil. It’s an odd one for sure.

Which live action film are you the most excited for? Probably not the one about the devil. I can’t wait for all of these to make absurd amounts of money!
