Action… AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (Video)
2008 saw the birth of what would become the highest-grossing movie franchise in history: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After a series of solo adventures lead in to 2012’s phase one-ending The Avengers, the Disney-owned Marvel Studios continued to launch hit after hit and franchise after franchise with properties like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange — all Marvel Comics creations transformed into A-list box office names. Captain America: Civil War was the biggest earner of 2016, Doctor Strange became the highest grossing debut solo movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in theaters this May, is poised to be one of the biggest hits of 2017. Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Homecoming — creatively produced by Marvel Studios — swings into theaters this July, and marks the first time a Spider-Man movie is in the creative hands of Marvel after the studio revitalized the character in a scene-stealing debut in Civil War.
The future is bright for the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and two (so far) Avengers sequels on the way. The first, Avengers: Infinity War, will unite the heroes of the Marvel Universe against a looming threat so large it will take them all — the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man and more — to save the universe. In what will be one of the most ambitious and biggest blockbusters of all time with a tremendous cast list, Avengers: Infinity War will lead to a “distinctively different chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases,” as envisioned by Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige.
With production on Infinity War now underway, Marvel has released a specially-created video offering a teasing and enticing look at what’s to come.
“Tony is not talking to Steve, the Avengers are basically a name with nobody in it,” says co-writer Christopher Markus. “The world is vulnerable.”
“Tony senses this greater threat approaching,” adds co-director Joe Russo, “so he is doing everything in his power to keep the Earth safe.” Warns Feige, “Thanos shows us why he is the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had, and the most frightening villain that the Avengers have ever faced.” Feige also officially confirms the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Avengers will finally meet come Infinity War.
“The most exciting part is the incredible roster of well-developed characters, and it’s going to create a really combustible, exciting, massive-scale adventure,” says Joe Russo. “Because of what Marvel is, because of what they have done over the last ten years, these next two Avengers films will be an event like no one has ever seen on film before.” Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Josh Brolin, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Tom Holland, Peter Dinklage, Benecio Del Toro, Karen Gillan, Cobie Smulders and more, Avengers: Infinity War arrives May 4th, 2018.
