After 50 years, Bond comes full circle.
Early critics have hailed Bond’s 23rd (official) outing as the best 007 ever. That’s a bold claim to make, but I can’t find any reason to disagree. The film is filled with surprises, the first being that the best parts of the trailer are all in the opening sequence! Daniel Craig is back again, more confident than ever in the secret agent’s shoes. Painfully introduced to his own mortality and a storyline flirts with his past, his portrayal of Bond is more interesting than ever. (and a bit more humorous.) The previous two films, although very good (especially Casino Royale), had a different “feel” to them. Almost more “Borne” than “Bond.” However, this one is a royal, pure-bred, Bond film, through and through. It just “feels” right. The cinematography in it is magnificent, making Skyfall the most visually stunning in the series. Casino Royale was actually considered to be a prequel, telling the beginning of his 007 status, even though it included characters and locations that were from previous Bond films. This one has a lot of fun tie-ins and throwbacks to classic Bond movies and by the very end you’ll see, after all these years, James has come home.
